Ames True Temper - Recall of O. Ames Wheelbarrows
Ames True Temper has recalled certain wheelbarrows made by O. Ames, a predecessor company, between 1993 and 2000. These products contain a plastic wheel assembly that has been known to fracture suddenly while being inflated. Serious injuries have occurred as a result of these explosive fractures. Ames True Temper is providing a replacement wheel assembly and a free gardening tool gift to affected users of these wheelbarrows.

How do I tell if I have one of these wheelbarrows?
The wheel assemblies on these wheelbarrows have a black plastic rim and have an approximately 14-inch diameter wheel. These wheelbarrows were sold under different names and model numbers, but they all have black plastic wheel assemblies. The wheel has an octagonal/stop sign shaped hub in the middle, with two circles outside of the hub. There are 16 spaces or slices of the pie between the ribs of the wheel. Directly above the valve stem on the rim are the words “Maximum inflation 30 psi.”
NOTE: If your wheelbarrow has a metal wheel, or if True Temper or Jackson made it, it is not affected by this recall.
What should I do if I have one of these wheelbarrows?
To receive a free replacement wheel assembly, call Ames True Temper toll free any time at (866) 239-2281. Our normal business hours are 8 am to 5 pm Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. If you call at other times, you will be asked to leave your contact information, and one of our customer service representatives will call you back during the next business day.
Until you install the new wheel assembly, please DO NOT INFLATE THE TIRE ON YOUR WHEELBARROW.
This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. (Updated June 2004)
