Sixteen years ago on 9/11, our nation was attacked by a horrific act of terrorism. Americans across the nation responded to this tragedy by uniting as one and risking their lives to save others in need.
Here in Pennsylvania, AMES is supporting preparations for the 16th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony in Shanksville to remember and honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93 and construct The Tower of Voices. The Tower will contain 40 uniquely pitched chimes as a symbolic representation of the eternal voices of the passengers and crewmembers of Flight 93.
This year, AMES is honored to take part in the remembrance of the victims of Flight 93 at the “Soundbreaking” ceremony on September 10th where the ground will be broken for what will be the final phase of the Tower of Voices at the National Memorial. We could not be more proud to support this foundation and its work in building a landmark for the 40 individuals who bravely thwarted an attack on our nation’s Capital.
We want to engage the Central Pennsylvania community in this important event by asking our neighbors who want to pay tribute, but are unable to attend this ceremony or visit the Memorial in person, to donate letters, notes or mementos to one of the AMES locations in Central Pennsylvania. We will keep the lobbies of each of our three Central PA locations open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and invite the community to drop off anything they would like to give, knowing that these donations will be transported to Shanksville and displayed at the Memorial as a show of support, love and respect from the community.
September 11th is an important day for the country to come together in prayer and remembrance, but is also a day for the state of Pennsylvania to reflect on this tragedy, mourn the victims and recognize their families. As an organization that has a long and rich history in Pennsylvania, we are honored to participate in this year’s groundbreaking ceremony, and we hope that we can serve as a vessel for our Central Pennsylvania residents who would like to pay tribute.
If you wish to donate, please visit the following AMES locations from September 5th – 7th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All donations will be delivered to the Memorial on September 8th in advance of the Soundbreaking Ceremony and the September 11th Memorial Service.
